A UL 2034 certified smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detector is a safety device with a visible test/reset button, often featuring an LED light and a digital display to show CO levels. While many are round, white, and wall- or ceiling-mounted, they can also have portable, compact designs, and come with various features like different alarm sound patterns or long-life batteries.

Shape and Color
Most models are round and white, similar to a standard smoke detector. Portable versions can have different shapes and colors, such as the yellow portable detector.
Digital Display
Many new models have a digital Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen to show the concentration of carbon monoxide in parts per million (PPM).
LED Indicator
A visible LED light, often flashing red during an alarm, alerts you when dangerous CO levels are detected. Some models use different flashing patterns for smoke vs. CO alarms.
Test/Reset Button
A prominent button is present on the device for testing its functionality and resetting it after an alarm.
Installation Method
You can find models designed for ceiling or wall installation, as well as portable units that can be placed in various locations or even taken on the go.
Power Source
They are available in battery-operated, hardwired, and combination versions, often with features like sealed, 10-year batteries to ensure power during an outage.
