A temperature detector fire alarm is a type of fire safety device that detects potential fires based on the temperature in the environment. Unlike smoke alarms, which sense particles in the air, temperature alarms rely on changes in heat to trigger the alert. They can be installed in areas where smoke alarms might not work properly, such as kitchens, bathrooms, or industrial settings with a lot of dust or steam.
How does a temperature alarm work?
There are two main types of high-temperature detectors:
Fixed Temperature Detectors: These activate the alarm when the surrounding temperature exceeds a pre-set threshold, usually around 57°C or higher. The threshold can often be adjusted based on the specific needs of the environment.
Rate-of-Rise Detectors: If the temperature rises quickly in the area, the alarm will trigger, even if the overall temperature hasn’t reached the critical level yet. These detectors are very sensitive to rapid temperature changes.
Combination Detectors: These combine both fixed temperature and rate-of-rise detection, offering more comprehensive heat detection capabilities. A combination alarm is more versatile, covering a wider range of situations.
Advantages:
Less likely to cause false alarms in environments with high dust, smoke, or humidity.
Can give earlier warnings in areas where a fire might smoulder before producing smoke.Disadvantages:
In large areas, smoke usually appears faster than heat, so these alarms may respond slower than smoke detectors.
Fixed temperature detectors only trigger when the critical temperature is reached, which can delay early warning.
