Centered Placement:

Positioning the detector in the center of the room or area ensures it’s closest to all points where smoke might originate.

Avoidance of Dead Air Spaces:

It’s recommended to place smoke detectors at least 300mm (11.8 inches) away from walls and light fixtures to avoid areas where airflow might be restricted.

Vertical Distance from Apex (for Sloped Ceilings):

For sloped or peaked ceilings, smoke detectors should be placed a maximum of 600mm (23.6 inches) vertically down from the apex.

Recommended Locations:

In open-plan kitchens, consider placing a heat detector in the kitchen area and a smoke detector in the adjacent living or dining area.
